WEB (ONLINE)
Computer based instruction in which students can access course information and lessons by the Internet and respond by
e-mail. Students need to have access to a computer with an Internet provider and/or Internet account with Midland College. Students must have a RELIABLE Internet Service Provider prior to the start of class.
FINDING AN ONLINE COURSE
To find an Online course in the College Credit section, look at the end of each departmental listing. If there is an Online header it will be followed by a list of all Online courses offered in that discipline with the instructor’s e-mail address.
WEB (ONLINE) COURSE INSTRUCTIONS
A student enrolled in an Online course must contact the instructor (see this link for instructor email addresses) prior to the first day of session. Access to the course starts the first day of the course. (Dates vary, please check the starting and ending dates in the list of courses.) Students will be contacted by the instructor during the first week of school.

Students: You will have access to your Blackboard course(s) on the first day of classes.
Password information can be found at www.midland.edu/blackboard/login.php then click on Blackboard to access online courses. (Late registrants should contact the instructor as soon as possible after registering. Late registrants will have access within 72 hours of registration.)
Course materials are available at the MC Bookstore (432) 685-4545 or online at www.midlandcollegebookstore.com. Please buy them before the course begins.
Operating Systems, Software, and Hardware:
PC: Windows 98, 2000, XP, ME, or NT with Service Pack 3 or higher.
Macintosh: 8.6 or higher.
Minimum CPU:
PC. Pentium II 233+ MHz; 64+ MB RAM required.
Mac. Motorola 68040 (Power PC recommended).
Internet Connection: 56k or faster Internet connection, modem, DSL, or Cable connection.
Graphics card: 16 bit color and screen resolution of 800 x 600 or higher
Sound card and speakers (for some classes, check with Instructor.)
CD-ROM drive.
Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher software may be required for some courses
(this is a free download).
Monitor: 15” or larger color monitor.
ISP: Reliable Internet service provider.
Antivirus Software: Norton and McAfee are recommended.
Word processor: Microsoft Word (check with your instructor for allowable exceptions).

Apple Safari 1.1 / Mac OS 10.3All other web browser/operating system combinations are untested, however they may still work. Browsers provided by AOL, Prodigy, or MSN WILL NOT WORK WITH BLACKBOARD. If you use a dial-up AOL connection follow the procedure below to access Blackboard:
1. Connect to the internet with your AOL connection.
2. Minimize your AOL web browser.
3. Open up one of the suggested browsers (IE, FireFox, etc.).
4. Go to http://blackboard.midland.edu.Plug-ins: Some may be required for specific courses.
Browser Cache: Set to always reload. To set browser's cache to always reload:
For Internet Explorer:
Tools/Internet Options/General/Temporary Internet Files/Settings/Every visit to the pageFor Netscape:
Edit/Preferences
Click + sign next to Advanced to see more options
Select Cache/Every time I view the page
Click OK.
Computer settings that may help performance:
If connecting by modem, disable call-waiting.
Disable any pop-up blockers.
