Applying For Aid

Step 1: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Click here for steps on how to apply. This must be completed each school year and is based on the previous years income tax return. You must also complete the admission process for attendance at Midland College.  CLICK HERE to understand more about the application process.

Step 2: Apply for all other types of aid by completing the General Academic Scholarship Application.

Step 3: Turn in all requested documents to the financial aid office. Additional documents such as your Federal Tax Returns and a verification worksheet may be requested to complete your file.

Step 4: Check on the status of your application periodically. This process can take several months to complete.

Application Process

Please understand that this process can take up to 8 weeks to be processed.  These are the steps that you should take in filling out the FAFSA.

  1. Apply for a pin # (This is for online applicants only)

If you applied online the previous year, then all you have to do is fill out a Renewal FAFSA using your existing pin # and your current tax returns.

2.  Fill out and submit your application (If you filled out your FAFSA online make sure that you have your pin # to sign it electronically.  If you will mail it in, make sure it is all filled out correctly, signed by both the student and one parent "if dependent", and dated.)

3.  Wait on Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Department of Education (For online Applicants this will be e-mailed to you if you have an e-mail address within 3 to 5 days.  If you mailed in your application you will receive it within about 2 to 3 weeks of the day you mailed your application.)

4.  After you receive your SAR, your school should receive you application within 2 to 3 weeks after the day you received it.  If you do not hear from your school within four weeks after you received your SAR, then contact your school.

5.  The school will let you know how much money you are eligible to receive and will send you an award letter.  If not they will send you notification of the verification process if you were selected for verification.

6.  Once you have been awarded you will be able to register without having to pay for tuition and fees (if your award amount is enough to pay your total tuition and fees) and will be able to receive a book voucher for you to purchase your books and supplies from the bookstore.  (Again this is based on the amount you are awarded and the type of financial aid you received.  Your award letter should have all financial aid that was awarded to you.)

7.  If you had money still remaining after it paid for your tuition, fees, and books, then you should receive a residual check within about the 12th week of school.(Your award letter should have the exact date for this disbursement.)  Again, not all types of financial aid are the same and will have a residual amount disbursed back to you.  Please check with the Financial Aid office for this information.
