Midland College (MC) was established as an independent junior college in 1972 and held its first classes on campus in 1975. Since that time, the campus, often recognized as one of the most beautiful in the nation, has expanded to a 605,536 square-foot main campus on 224 acres in the heart of Midland, Texas — a county seat of over 100,000 people. The institution, overall, has grown to include eight other campus extensions, including an 85,000 square-foot Advanced Technology Center. Current construction projects include a new 79,072 square-foot Academic Building and a 21,645 square-foot addition to the Fox Science Building, providing increased state-of-the-art classrooms, lecture halls, laboratory facilities and learning resources. These improvements are part of a fiveyear plan to implement $41.8 million in expansions and renovations, approved overwhelmingly by the voters in a 2005 bond election.
Over 149,000 people have taken
classes at MC since its inception.
Attending MC as a freshman or sophomore is approximately one-third the cost of other Texas four-year public institutions.
MC provides several opportunities for FREE education: GED, ESL and seminars on workers’ health and safety. The Business and Economic Development Center (BEDC) also provides confidential business counseling, as well as scholarships toward Business Survival Skills courses.
85% of MC students intend to pursue upper level degrees and perform as well or better than native university students in overall GPA.

Midland College has won 19 National Championships in
sports since 1975, as well as produced 189 All-Americans.

Midland College (MC) is a Level II (four-year) institution, accredited to offer a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) degree in Organizational Management. MC offers 50+ associate degrees and 50+ certificate options, as well as an Internet-based Distance Learning program and general Continuing Education programs. The College also offers Petroleum Professional Development Training and Continuing Education programs in Health Sciences and Workforce Training - plus Dual Enrollment High School programs, Adult Basic Education, Kids’ College, and College Classics (classes for Senior Citizens).
In addition to MC’s BAT degree, students can earn other upper-level degrees without leaving the Midland College campus from Angelo State University, Howard Payne University, Lubbock Christian University, Sul Ross State University, Texas Tech University Health Science Center and the University of Texas of the Permian Basin.
The College also invests in the quality of life in Midland. Over 76,600 West Texans have attended the Phyllis & Bob Cowan Performing Arts Series and the Davidson Distinguished Lecture Series, which bring renowned performers and speakers to the campus for free community concerts and lectures. MC is also home to the McCormick Art Gallery and the newly created STUDIO 3600, which exhibits works by MC art students, as well as co-produces theater presentations with Midland Community Theatre. The College’s Al G. Langford Chaparral Center is the largest public facility in town and has hosted over 3.6 million people at over 2,400 events, including concerts, trade shows, and sporting events.
The community has responded in kind. Midland College has been the fortunate benefactor of many generous community gifts, which previously funded new buildings and many renovations since the College’s inception. The College is also unique in that the Abell-Hanger Foundation, Helen Greathouse Charitable Trust and the Chaparral Foundation annually provide free tuition and fees to over 500 high school graduates from Midland County through Midland’s Legacy Scholarship. This single commitment alone assures that more of Midland’s high school graduates attend college.
